Principals Message

September 2009
Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to another new and exciting year at Jane Addams Elementary School.  As you say goodbye to summer get ready for a fun filled, exciting, academic adventure.
We are pleased to share that the initial STAR scores show an increase in student proficiency in English Language Arts and Math. Although we have shown growth, there are areas in which our students can improve. Our school will continue to focus on Reading Language Arts, specifically getting better at meeting the needs of all students in every sub group.

Safety is one of our main priorities at Addams School. With this in mind, please remember to check into the office if you are visiting on campus. We will be strictly enforcing our visitor policy for the safety of our children. Visitors are not allowed on campus without a visitor’s identification badge or VIPS ID. All parents are asked to complete two enrollment cards. These cards should have names of individuals your child can be released to in the event of an emergency. All adults must show a valid I.D. to pick up a student. In addition to these safety precautions, we are asking parents to park their vehicle and pick up kindergarten students at their classroom.

I would also like to remind students and parents that any involvement with controlled substances, including alcohol or any intoxicants, and possession of a weapon while at school, going to and from school, or while at any student body activity, will result in disciplinary action. The discipline ranges from a disciplinary transfer to another school to expulsion from the Long Beach Unified School District. This also includes instances where a student is not the owner of the substance.

This year our goal is to have 100% participation in the LBUSD school uniform program. Approximately 98% of our students come in uniform everyday. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for guidelines.
